Los Angeles F.C. To sign Wesley Sneijder

The Major League Soccer is certainly attracting world-class European players, with the likes of Steven Gerard and Frank Lampard the league had players like David Beckham, who played for L.A. Galaxy, and now another European legend will be entering the great American league.

Football Club Los Angeles, is expanding its squad and is very close to agreeing on a two-year deal for former Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder to become its first Designated Player.

The former Dutch international, currently playing in Turkey with Galatasaray, has been offered a  $3.5 million-a-year contract to move to the Banc of California Stadium.

The Los Angeles management believes that the capture of the former Champions League winner star will deliver a clear statement of intent of the club's determination to become a new powerhouse in the MLS.

The 33-year-old still has 12 months left on his contract, but with Los Angeles not due to start its MLS campaign until March 2018,  the Dutch International would remain in Istanbul for the remainder of 2017 before moving to Los Angeles in the New Year.

The New York F.C. has recruited Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, and Frank Lampard since launching as an expansion team in 2015.

Los Angeles is keen to follow the same path in order to have a squad able to challenge for success in its first campaign.

The highly anticipated, Manchester United striker  Zlatan Ibrahimovic had been a leading target prior to the Swedish player sustaining a critical injury in April this year, which is expected to rule him out of action until January 2018.

But efforts to capture Sneijder have progressed well and the Dutch playmaker is now close to becoming the first-star name to commit to the LAFC project.
