President Barack Obama made a video appearance on Sunday night at the Grammy Awards to do a PSA (Public Service Announcement ),encouraging viewers to take vow in the fight against sexual and domestic violence against women.

But it was what happened that the Commander in Chief had to make such a pledge.

Domestic violence survivor Brooke Axtell stood on the Grammy stage to tell her story.

“What bound me to him was my desire to heal him,” she said. “ When he threatened to kill me I knew I had to escape. Authentic love does not devalue another human being. Authentic love does not silence, shame or abuse. If you’re in a relationship with someone who doesn’t honor or respect you, I want you to know you are deserving of love.”
This introduction was depicted in Katy Perry’s performance of “By the Grace of God.”

Dressed in all white with white background and shadow of a dancer behind her, Perry sang the emotional lyrics: “Thought I wasn’t enough and I wasn’t so tough. Laying on the bathroom floor, we were living on a fault line and I felt the fault was all mine. Couldn’t take it anymore.”
