Fire Danger warning in effect across South California.

A large area of southern California is under an excessive heat warning. On Sunday,  the record heat can burn the whole area. The temperature is expected to reach 100 degrees in some areas, possibly 107 degrees in the valley areas and 117 degree in the palm springs.

By the noon temperature had reached 103 degrees in Montebello. In Burbank the heat reached 106 degrees and beating the 1973’s record by two degrees. According to National weather Service, fire danger is elevated during this period and red flag warnings have been issued for some parts of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties as well as Santa Barbara County. The forecasters have informed that the “sundowner” wind will strengthen Sunday night, making it harder to battle Sherpa Wildfire in Santa Barbara County which has already scorched 7800 acres.

The Red flag warning will be in effect through Tuesday night in the mountain areas of Santa Monica in Los Angeles county and the Angeles National Forest mountains in Ventura County. The combination of wind, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will cause rapid spread of fire.

Southland residents were advised to schedule their outdoor works early in the morning and take precautions to prevent heat stroke and heat exhaustion. Children, elderly persons and pets should be monitored closely during the scorching heat.

The California Independent System operator, which oversees the operation of California’s Electric Power System asked residents to conserve electricity. On Monday the flex alert would be in effect from 10 AM to 9 PM.
