“We Are Sikh” Campaign in Fresno

The Sikh community in Fresno, California has launched “We Are Sikh” campaign as part of the National Sikh Campaign (NSC) to spread awareness of the religion as well as the Sikh Americans.

We Are Sikh campaign will feature local, muti-platform advertising and community events. The co-founder and senior adviser of the NSC, Rajwant Singh on Thursday told The Times of India (TOI) that the two television advertisements, ‘Neighbors’ and ‘Proud’ had already begun to air in the Fresno media.

The advertisement ‘Neighbors’ explains the values of Sikhism and how they were similar to American values while the other advertisement ‘Proud’ highlights how their community values - tolerance, religious freedom and gender equality, goes hand in hand with American values. He added that these advertisements were already airing on CNN and FOC cable networks across the United States.

Mr. Singh said that an event was held to mark the launch of the campaign in the city, which was attended by chairman of Fresno County Board of Supervisors.

Brian Pacheco and Supervisor Buddy Mendes, Fresno Mayor Lee Brand, Fresno City Council President Clint Olivier, Fresno City Council members Oliver Baines and Esmerelda Soria besides Sikh community.

"We are very proud to launch We Are Sikhs Fresno. It is a culmination of a long and a collective effort of the Sikh community nationwide to in form about who we are and why we are proud to wear the turban, a symbol of our community's commitment to equality and serving others," said Rajwant Singh.

He informed that they had engaged AKPD, President Obama's media team and Hart Research Associates, which did the strategy work for the World Bank, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Harvard University.
