Kamala Harris Supports Protesting Workers of UC Berkeley, Canceling Commencement Speech

A well known Indian American lawmaker, Kamala Harris announced on Monday that she will skip  her scheduled commencement speech at the University of California, Berkeley in support of University staff, who are protesting over payment divergence.

The senator’s office officially stated that, “Due to the ongoing labor dispute, Sen. Harris regretfully cannot attend and speak at this year’s commencement ceremony at UC Berkeley,”

The indications were already sent by Harris, that she could be one of Democratic party’s Key competitor for the 2019 election, which was all set to speak at the graduation ceremony.

On Monday, the defenders and security guards across 10 university campuses called for a three day protest due to the contract disputes.

Extending support to the protesting staff, nearly 30,000 medical workers from the five medical centers of the University , who joined the strike.
