A homeless man was shot dead by Los Angeles police officers on Sunday over allegedly wielding a knife. The incident took place in Hollywood outside 99 Cents Only store, located near Sunset and Hobart boulevards.
Police was alerted at around 3:45 p.m. about a man creating nuisance and breaking items at the discount store. Upon reaching the store, the officers found a man allegedly holding a knife outside the store.
LAPD Cmdr. Dennis Kato said that the officers used a stun gun during confrontation with the man. But the man kept coming towards the officers, who then shot him.
According to a witness, he heard three or four shots. But no officer was hurt in the confrontation.
A knife was recovered at the crime scene, as per the police.
A man who lives in the neighborhood said that it was a pity that the homeless man was shot dead over a shopping cart. According to this witness, trouble began when the unidentified man got into an argument with a security guard of the store over taking a shopping cart.
